What is Braver Angels?

Braver Angels seeks to depolarize our community by providing a safe environment where people can have civil discourse about important social and political issues.

The Rossmoor Braver Angels Club is a local chapter of the national organization dedicated to depolarizing America. Located in Rossmoor, Walnut Creek, California, we strive to bring our community together through meaningful events and dialogues. By fostering a spirit of understanding and respect, Rossmoor Braver Angels is committed to bridging divides and promoting unity. Join us at our events and be part of a movement that values listening, learning, and growing together.

Our History

The Rossmoor Braver Angels Club began in December 2022 when a small number of residents from across the political spectrum gathered together with a vision. We believe that we can reach across the divide to explore serious political and social issues through civil discussions, realizing that we’re not as far apart as politicians and the media make us think at times. We have grown as a club and now have almost 250 club subscribers.

The goals of the Rossmoor Braver Angels Club are:

  • To host Braver Angels workshops, conversations, events, and more, to meet our other goals
  • To meet with our neighbors to discuss, appreciate, and understand the political and social diversity present in our community
  • To actively work to bridge the political divide with strong representation of red-leaning, blue-leaning, and independent members

The Braver Angels Way

We state our views freely and fully, without fear.

We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity and respect.

We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree.

We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to.

We seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes.

We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.

We believe that, in disagreements, both sides share and learn.

In Braver Angels, neither side is teaching the other or giving feedback on how to think or say things differently.

Abraham Lincoln

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion.
